About the Champions Programme

The Champions Programme is about recognising and rewarding exemplar organisations and encouraging them to disseminate and share their best practices to organisations of all sizes and within every sector.

The aim of the programme is to promote and retain interest in the Investors in People Standard, Profile, and other products and services.

We currently have 36 Champion organisations throughout the UK, who are eager to share their stories of success and how Investors in People has played a significant role in helping them achieve it.

The Champions

Background to the Champions Programme

The Champion Programme originated from the Investors in People - What next? (Summer 2001) consultation with employers and practitioners. (The full report is available on the main Investors in People UK website.) This consultation summarised and highlighted what employers want from the programme and what constitutes an Investors in People Champion organisation. From this information, we were able to determine a criteria that was used to select the first 16 organisations in 2004, 8 in 2005, 9 in 2006 and 9 in 2007.

The Purpose of the programme

The purpose of the Champions programme is to increase the take up of Investors in People through:

- Recognising and rewarding: those organisations who have been outstanding in promoting the values and principles of Investors in People and who have led by example in the way they manage and develop their people.

- Sharing and learning: to encourage the sharing and dissemination of good practice in people management and development, to maximise learning, support continuous improvement, and raise performance.

- Championing the Standard: to encourage organisations to be more proactive in championing the Standard and Profile and by stimulating demand with customers and suppliers.

How were our Champions selected?

If you are a recognised Investor in People organisation and are interested in becoming a Champion, you can learn more about the benefits and the selection process by clicking here.

Champions undergo the assessment process below:

1. Application submission:
The application form is available to download from this website. Applications will be accepted until Friday 27th April.

2. Sifting & scoring:
Application forms will be scored against the Champion criteria by a team of 'sifters' from Investors in People UK. Those applications scoring above an agreed level will advance to the site visit stage. Applicants scoring below that agreed level will receive written feedback.

3. Site Visits:
Investors in People UK will liaise with Regional Quality Centress over accessing additional evidence such as assessment reports for the Standard, Profile, and the Models. Subsequently, meetings will be arranged for representatives from Investors in People UK to visit each organisation that has reached this phase to discuss the application in greater detail.
A decision will then be made as to whether the organisation should be considered by the National Awards Panel. Written feedback will be given at this time if the organisation is not put forward to the Panel.

4. The National Awards Panel:
The last stage of the application process is the National Awards Panel on Thursday 11th October. In this phase, applicants will make a short presentation to the Panel and answer questions from the Panel members. Please put this date in your diary when applying. All organisations reaching the judging panel will receive verbal feedback about the judges' decisions.

Organisations that achieve Champion status will be invited to an induction day and the Champions Awards Dinner on Thursday 29th November. Please ensure that this date is also in your diary when applying.

What will Champions do?

Champions undertake at least FOUR best practice sharing activities a year via:

- Site Visits: hosting visits at their premises and sharing best practice to a small group of organisations;

- Mentoring: offering ongoing ad hoc support to a small number of individual organisations;

- Speaking Engagements and Presentations: telling their Investors story to groups and organisations at national and regional events. Much of this is done through the Investors in People Ambassadors Programme;

- Help with the development of IIP products & services;

- Promoting Investors in People to their customers, suppliers and community.
